Week 2 Day 9
Monday is always a day of restarting, of new chances to learn. This is very important to the life of a teacher. I have many flaws as a human, but as a teacher, I always feel that there is a chance of renewal on Monday. Monday is also a day of checking in with my feelings and judging how I am feeling. If I don't keep an eye (a check) on my emotions, I might overlook opportunities to create the kind of life that I want.
Children have the same needs. They need to feel like Monday is a reboot, that their emotions are valid, that they have new chances. I am trying to take time to make my process a parallel process. In other words, what I am putting forth for my students, should be a process that I am participating in as well.
Dr. Risner gave me an interesting bit of feedback, that I have been mulling over since receiving it last week. He stated, that as I reflect over the challenges of my teaching practice (and there are many), I might try thinking like an editor. That intrigues me. Writing is a challenge that doesn't intimidate me and to remind myself that teaching can be approached that way, could be very productive. This week my focus will be to think like an editor.
