Day 10; post fellowship. Writing on a Monday is redolent of family and love. I remember Mondays when I would come home from school and my mother would have a snack ready for me when I came through the door. In my early elementary years, I often came come for lunch, because the school was close and our lunch was actually an hour in length.
These days Monday has become synonymous with anxiety, but of late, I am making Monday the reboot day. No matter how old I am there is still the little girl who wants to please, and who is afraid she doesn't measure up.
That is how my students, some of them, probably feel. They will be nervous and tentative those first few days of school and I hope I am there to be ready to catch them in the free-fall of life. When other parts of life fails a child, there teacher should be there to make a difference. This is what I hope to be this year; a beacon of understanding and life in the face of challenge and growth through the year and on through their little lives.
