I have been reading a book Broadway: A History of New York City in Thirteen Miles by an architect, Fran Leadon. It has been providing me with a history and context of the city I will be spending three weeks in starting in twenty four days.
Yesterday the world paid attention to immigration issues, when a young woman scaled the Statue of Liberty and refused to move until I.C.E. is abolished. This kind of radical disobedience is the hallmark of our country and it gave me pause to think about my fellowship beyond the limited scope of my teaching.
I work with immigrant children from all over the world. As an educator I feel I also act as a mother to others. Because a mother wants the best for her "children" my work as an educator is as an arts advocate.
