It was a fun assignment, to read a book that has so influenced my style of teaching. The book, A Reason to Read is by the Kurt Wootton and Eileen Landy. I not only have read and used this book for several years, but was in a workshop learning directly from Mr. Wooton who now runs a lab school in Mexico though its roots are in New England, beginning at Brown University as the Arts Literacy project.
Though I have used the book hundreds of times, I had never reflected on it while thinking and talking about my process. It gave me names of researchers and educators that I want to do a deeper dive into as I begin my research and also helped me find confidence, when so often my day is full of self-doubt and brooding.
Discoveries
My strengths-a love of reading and writing that transfers to my students. Flexibility and a self-reflective (intuitive) personality
My weaknesses - not proficient in my assessments, often don' t write my reflections so even if I learned from my mistakes, can't refer back it.
Surprises - I have my own system that works, but never have articulated it. I have attached my guiding star document to this page.
